After two full weeks of orientation in Kuala Lumpur by MACEE and the US Embassy we flew to our state orientations led by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. My orientation was held in the city of Kuala Terengganu (just a quick 40 minute flight from KL). Kuala Terengganu is a majority muslim city of about 280,000 located on the eastern coast of peninsular Malaysia. During orientation we were briefed on the policies of the Ministry of Education and met our state, district, and school representatives. Together we made plans for our students throughout the year, along with extracurricular activities, and English camps. Below are some photos from the orientation.
The final days of our orientation we held our first English Camp at a local school in Terengganu. Our camp was titled Road Trip Around America. I led the Pacific Northwest section, and students learned about Seattle and had to 'toss the fish' at Pike Place market. Check out some photos from the camp below.
Next we are headed to our placements! Check in soon to learn about my first days at school in the city of Raub, Pahang!
